NEW YORK (Nov. 18, 2009) – TEDxNASA has chosen Internet video
platform Livestream to broadcast live the full proceedings of its first-time
gathering at the Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News, Va., on Friday,
Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST.
The TEDxNASA event,
with its theme of “Space to Create,” will provide an opportunity to leverage
the strengths of NASA, accomplished scientists, artists and other thought leaders
to present a unique opportunity for the exchange of game-changing ideas. The
event is organized by NASA's Langley Research Center and the National Institute
of Aerospace (NIA).
Interested parties
can tune in to watch and chat live on Livestream, on Facebook via the custom
Livestream application or from their iPhones. Users of social media tools can
also engage participants. Livestream allows the webcast to be embedded
virtually anywhere, which enables the integration with Facebook and Twitter and
builds larger online extensions to in-person events.
“Livestream has been a pleasure to work with, providing a technically
capable and very responsive staff. We are very pleased to be able to invite people
from around the world to join us live. It’s going to be an incredible event,” said
Harla Sherwood, NIA’s Director of Communications and Partnerships.
New York Times best-selling author, Tuesdays
with Morrie radio host, musician and philanthropist Mitch Albom will talk,
along with experimental artist Chakaia Booker, creativity and innovation coach
Gregg Fraley, robotics inventor Dr. Dennis Hong, astronaut Leland Melvin,
humorous guitar virtuoso Mike Rayburn and many others. The event is expected to
attract 1,700 attendees.
TEDxNASA attendees
will include Internet pioneers, local technology leaders, movie producers,
architects, creative directors, CEOs, entrepreneurs, authors, engineers,
investors, celebrities, scientists and opinion shapers of all kinds. For more

About TEDxNASA
In the spirit of “ideas
worth spreading,” TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) has created TEDx.
It’s a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to
share a TED-like experience. This latest event is called TEDxNASA, where x = an
independently organized TED event. At our TEDx NASA event, TEDTalks video and
live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small
group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but
individual TEDx events, are self-organized.
