Avis Will Have Florida Travelers Beaming With AT&T Cruisecast In-Car TV

RaySat_ATT_lockup
Dallas and Parsippany, N.J., July 6, 2009 – Avis Rent A Car and RaySat Broadcasting (RBC) today announced that Avis renters at select locations can now enjoy the ride with AT&T CruiseCast service, a new satellite TV technology that delivers 22 video satellite channels as well as 20 audio channels to a mobile unit in automobiles. Beginning today, Avis renters at airport locations in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach can rent AT&T CruiseCast for $8.95 per day or $62.65 per week. Avisjpg

“AT&T CruiseCast arrives just in time for family summer travel,” said Michael Caron, vice president of product and program development at Avis Budget Group, parent company of Avis. “The service provides hours of entertainment for adults and kids which is sure to enhance any summer vacation.”

The AT&T CruiseCast service offers a variety of channels, including Cartoon Network Mobile, Disney Channel, DisneyXD, Discovery Kids, USA Network, Discovery, Animal Planet, SCI FI, Lifetime Television, Adult Swim Mobile, ESPN Mobile, NFL Network, CBS College Sports Network, FOX News, CNN Mobile, MSNBC and AccuWeather.

The portable unit provides TV screens that attach to the back of the vehicle’s headrests, and come with headphones, for easy viewing and listening by passengers. A 12-volt jack plugs into the car’s power outlets and the unit’s receiver is housed inside a small bag attached to the seatback.

Outside the vehicle, a compact antenna is mounted to the roof. The antenna, installed by an Avis representative prior to rental pickup, receives the satellite TV signals, provides them to the receiver and displays the program on the TV screen. The AT&T CruiseCast service utilizes video buffering technology to automatically store two minutes of content so viewing is not interrupted by satellite obstructions such as overpasses or tall buildings.

“What better way to entertain travelers than with live TV in a rental vehicle,” said Winston Guillory, Jr., president of RBC. “AT&T CruiseCast service offers something for everyone and we know that Avis customers will really enjoy it.”

Advance rental reservations are required for AT&T CruiseCast service. For more information, visit www.avis.com/cruisecast.  To reserve the service, contact Avis Reservations at 800-331-1212.

Ifbyphone Unveils Virtual Call Center Service

Ifbyphone_logo_HQ Hosted offering provides alternative to busy signals, call waiting and voicemail for time-sensitive customer calls

CHICAGO —June 29, 2009— Ifbyphone today introduced Call Distributor, a service that enables small and mid-size businesses (SMB) to create virtual call centers, complete with advanced automated call handling that enables customers to instantly route inbound calls to any phone, anywhere.

With the new Call Distributor service, SMBs pay only for the minutes consumed, avoid long term agreements and will not incur any capital expense as the Ifbyphone service eliminates the need to purchase expensive new business telephone equipment and software.

Ifbyphone’s Call Distributor also provides call center operators an array of additional call routing options, including the ability to expand their workforce to tap into the growing home-based agent segment by sending inbound calls to any phone.

“The days of SMBs missing customer calls and losing business because they don’t have access to an expensive PBX or a call center, like Fortune 500 companies have, are over,” said Ifbyphone CEO Irv Shapiro. “With Call Distributor, any business can now have a flexible call center service option that provides advanced call handling capabilities with central management to workers anywhere, using any existing phone.”

Call Distributor also includes several capabilities beyond advanced call routing, including interactive voice response and call queuing, both of which save time, reduce costs and create efficiencies and have been designed into Call Distributor to help SMBs thrive in today’s economy. All Call Distributor capabilities are instantly available to anyone on any phone eliminating the need for agents to use phones physically connected to dedicated systems, or a specific type of phone such as a traditional landline, VoIP phone or software client-based endpoint such as a PC or smartphone.

Call Distributor includes the following capabilities:

  • Agents are defined as available based on a schedule, a web interface or via a  phone call from any phone;
  • Complete queue size and wait time control;
  • Support for customer-supplied audio prompts, queue messages and music on hold;
  • Callers may choose to leave a queue at any time and are routed to voice mail or an IVR application according to a web-based configuration;
  • A complete web-based agent dashboard with call notification which includes reverse lookups, integration with Salesforce.com and customer data options;
  • A sophisticated, web-based management dashboard, which displays agent status, call statistics, calls in queue and supports the transmission of messages to agents.

Consistent with Ifbyphone’s innovative service and feature model, SMBs pay only for actual minutes used as opposed to the expensive, commonplace practices of charging per-agent or per-seat license and/or fees for agent idle time. The virtual approach is in stark contrast to traditional call centers which use expensive PBX/ACD or key telephone systems to distribute calls to onsite agents in a central facility.

“Whether they’re considered big regional companies with multiple locations, or the popular sandwich shop around the corner at lunchtime, businesses of all sizes need high-power, low-cost, web-based and configurable tools for optimally managing their call volume,” explained Shapiro. “This is an essential business function because lost calls mean lost revenue.”

Call Distributor is just one component of a family of advanced telephone applications which all work with any phone.  These applications include: virtual phone numbers with advanced routing, Hosted IVR, Voice Broadcasting, Call Tracking, Find Me, Click-to-Call, Google Analytics® Integration and more.  To see the complete family of Ifbyphone’s services, please visit http://www.ifbyphone.com.

Magician David Blaine Teams up with Partners 1993 to Bring His Favorite Close-up Card Magic, See-A-Card, to Apple’s App Store

Logo_pressrelease Now iPhone and iPod touch Users Can Amaze Everyone with Easily Downloaded App

LOS ANGELES – June 29, 2009 – The coolest new app for the Apple® iPhone™ and iPod touch lets users perform famed magician David Blaine’s amazing card effect that astounds audiences everywhere, thanks to the skills of software engineering firm Partners 1993.

The user-friendly app -- “Street Magic: See A Card” -- works on supported iPhones, including the new 3G S, and iPod touch devices, and allows users to become a magician, like Blaine, in boggling the minds of those who see the effect performed.  The app became available for downloads at Apple’s iTunes app store for $1.99 on Friday, June 26, 2009.

Davidblaine“This is my favorite piece of magic; it was pivotal in gaining my first TV special. Now, for the first time, I am making it available to magic fans as a download from the Apple app store,” said Blaine, who continually strives to amaze audiences with magic and public feats of endurance that include levitation and remaining under water longer than any other human being.

“Turning the iPhone into a virtual deck of cards is no small feat,” he added.  “This is one of the hardest card effects to get right, and Partners 1993 has really demonstrated its technical skills.  This application makes every owner of a supported iPhone and iPod touch a magician.”

David Blaine’s software firm, Mindboggling LLC, chose Partners 1993 to develop Street Magic for the iPhone and iPod touch because of its track record of innovatively solving complex mobile-application problems.

“Partners 1993 is pleased to have collaborated with David Blaine in adapting the physical effect to one that works in the iPhone and iPod touch formats,” said Lew Roth, Partners 1993 vice president of business development.  “We’re proud that we could apply our out-of-the-box thinking and implementation skills to Street Magic and deliver an app that allows any performer to duplicate what David Blaine does best – leave audiences of all ages amazed by what they have just seen.”

Roth said building Street Magic to replicate Blaine’s legerdemain presented many challenges, including:

  • Developing the full size, composite animated imagery and sequencing needed for the iPhone to be perceived as a three-dimensional full deck of cards.
  • Getting the iPhone 3-D deck to behave the same as the physical deck of cards when David Blaine performs the effect.
  • Getting the card seen by the viewer to be the same card that is revealed on the iPhone screen.

“Street Magic was one of the most fun yet challenging iPhone projects we’ve undertaken at Partners 1993.  We were inspired by David Blaine’s initial vision and driven by the extraordinary responses that this card trick evokes,” said Roth.

About David Blaine
David Blaine has redefined magic around the world with his unique brand of intimate, close-up magic and his challenges that have set new boundaries of human endurance.  These include being buried alive in Manhattan for seven days and seven nights, being encased in a six-ton block of ice for three days and nights, also in Manhattan, and surviving on pure water alone for 44 days and 44 nights while dangling in a plexiglas box over River Thames in London.  Born in Brooklyn, New York, David discovered his passion of magic at the age of five.  He began performing professionally for private parties when he turned 13.  At 19, he did his first television appearance and immediately afterward began doing private parties and traveling around the world with his magic.  By the age of 23, David had created, directed and produced an original television program titled Street Magic, which was broadcast as a one-hour primetime special by the American Broadcasting Company.  Street Magic revolutionized the way magic is portrayed on television around the world and garnered rave reviews by critics.  Blaine has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, Charlie Rose, The Carson Daly Show, Larry King Live, 20/20, Good Morning America, The Today Show, and Howard Stern, among others.  South Park devoted an entire episode to spoofing David Blaine. http://www.davidblaine.com

Truphone Adds 11 New Nokia Devices To Its Portfolio

TruphoneLogo26 Nokia Devices Now Truphone Compatible

London, 25 June 2009 Truphone has added 11 additional Nokia handsets to the list of devices compatible with Truphone and whose owners can now ring up big savings by taking advantage of Truphone’s broad range of calling plans and services.

“We first introduced Truphone on a Nokia device so we are pleased to be able to increase the range of compatible Nokia devices and extend our loyal Nokia customer base further,” said Truphone CEO Geraldine Wilson. “Nokia is still the largest mobile handset manufacturer in the world so ensuring that we’re on as many of these devices as possible means more and more people can take advantage of Truphone’s fantastic rates to make international calls.”

With the addition of the 11 new handsets, Truphone is now compatible on 26* Nokia devices. Of those, software for 14 of the Truphone-compatible devices can now be downloaded from Nokia’s new Ovi store, with the software for 11 of the remaining 12 new devices to be added to the Ovi store soon.

In addition to the Ovi Store the Truphone application is also available for all 26 Nokia devices as an SMS over the air (OTA) download from the Truphone Web site, www.truphone.com, and will always parallel the applications available via the Ovi store.  The Truphone Web site will also include applications for other Nokia devices not currently available via Ovi, as well as the other supported mobile platforms.

The new Truphone-enabled Nokia devices are:

•    N96
•    N78
•    N85 (also VoIP enabled)
•    N79 (also VoIP enabled)
•    5630 (also VoIP enabled)
•    5800
•    5320
•    6210
•    6220
•    6650
•    E63

After downloading and installing the Truphone application to their handsets, Nokia device owners will be able to take advantage of two calling plan options:

•    Truphone Anywhere:  Calls made when customers are connected to local wireless networks are handled as local calls and then passed on to the Truphone network, from where they are routed at Truphone’s fantastic rates to landline and mobile phones worldwide. This service is intended for use in the user’s home country as savings cannot be guaranteed abroad.

•    Truphone Wi-Fi calling:  Calls made when customers are in accessible Wi-Fi hotspots anywhere in the world, can be made for free to other Truphone users and at Truphone’s fantastic rates to landline and mobile phones worldwide.

All of the new handsets are Truphone Anywhere capable, and in addition, three of the handsets, the N85, N79 and 5630, are also compatible with the original Truphone Wi-Fi calling service, hailing back to Truphone’s origin as the first Mobile VoIP service available on Nokia N- and E-series devices.

This means that when customers are connected to a Wi-Fi network, a call to another Truphone customer is completely free and also means they can use a Nokia handset as an alternative, inexpensive roaming solution if they choose to only make calls when connected to a Wi-Fi network when abroad or anywhere.

With Truphone Anywhere, everyone can save money when making international calls.  It’s simple:  International calls dialled on a Truphone Anywhere enabled handset are connected as local calls to the Truphone network, then routed to their destinations at Truphone’s low rates. This means that for the price of local calls, which are often bundled in an operator’s monthly package,  customers can make calls to other Truphone users for free or to landlines and mobiles around the world for as little as 1.5p per minute.

Ecomm_logo Event Aimed at Visionaries, Executives, Developers and Entrepreneurs Spanning Telecom,  Mobile and Internet Communications

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – June 25, 2009—The huge success of two annual industry events in the U.S. in identifying opportunities, promoting genuine innovation and spreading a vision of the future of communications has spawned the first Emerging Communications Conference Europe (eComm Fall 2009) to be held here October 28-30.

The conference will be held in Amsterdam’s unique Westergasfabriek cultural zone to provide the special context and space for the open and free flow of ideas, vision and debate over what’s next in telecom, mobile and Internet communications.

Lee S. Dryburgh, organiser and co-chair of eComm Fall 2009, said he expects the event here to attract Europe’s leading visionaries, influencers and entrepreneurs to push telecom, mobile and Internet communications toward new frontiers in seizing the immense new opportunities on offer.

Dryburgh said he is accepting suggestions for topics and speakers, as well as various levels of sponsorships, for the three-day event, which promises to be a tightly packed programme that stimulates, inspires and informs delegates.

“With the amazing success of our second consecutive eComm in the United States last March, it had became evident that the global community of communications professionals wished to keep growing and expanding. With that in mind, eComm Europe was born,” said Dryburgh.  “I look forward to seeing many familiar faces and new faces in Amsterdam. Together we’re shaping the future of communications at the most exciting period in telecommunications history.”

Attendees may register online at http://eComm.ec, with discounts available for early registration.

•    “Phones” are becoming general-purpose computers.
•    Applications innovation is being democratised.
•    The cash cows of telephony and text messaging will dry up long term.
•    Application downloads; media content and even communication streams are increasingly routing around operators’ billing systems.
•    Search engines and computer manufacturers are encroaching into the space.
•    The traditional telecom kingdom is becoming increasingly fragmented.

He said particular topics of interest for eComm Fall 2009 so far include:
•    Voice and messaging 2.0+.
•    Operator futures: bit-pipes, platforms or supermarkets?
•    Improving efficiency thru communications innovation.
•    The fusion of media, informational and conversational worlds.
•    Open communication platforms.

Although sponsorship only opened two days ago, all Platinum positions have been snapped up by visionary sponsors Voxbone, Voxeo, Global IP Solutions and VoiceSage.

Boingo Wireless Awarded First Patent

Logo_tag_cmyk_jpg First Patent Covers Method for Accessing Networks by a Mobile Device

LOS ANGELES – June 23, 2009 – Boingo Wireless, the world’s largest Wi-Fi network, announces that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued the company patent No. 7,483,984, covering the method and apparatus for accessing networks by a mobile device. The patent advances the company’s client technology for detection, association and logging into wireless networks, on any device.

The methods covered by the patent include accessing wireless carrier networks by mobile computing devices, where a client software application hosted by the device accesses carrier networks using wireless access points. For example, when a computer – or netbook, smartphone or any other Wi-Fi-enabled device – is in a location where there are multiple signals, the patented technology looks at each signal and alerts the user which signal will work, showing the signal as an understandable name and ID for the user.

The patent covers all wireless technologies and spectrums, as well as any mobile device that access wireless hotspots.

“This patent represents a huge addition to Boingo’s intellectual property,” said David Hagan, CEO and President, Boingo Wireless, Inc. “As the leader in Wi-Fi networks, Boingo is absolutely committed to making it easy for our customers to get online with one simple click. This patent highlights our commitment.”

“The technology covered by the patent is used in the Boingo client software for both laptop and a wide array of mobile platforms, including Android, iPhone, Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile,” said Niels Jonker, chief technology officer, Boingo Wireless, Inc. and a co-author of the patent. “With this patent, Boingo cements its position as a leader in authentication and verification of various wireless technologies, making it easier for a user to find the right network and connect with it, in a seamless presentation and user experience.”

Currently, Boingo Wireless has other patents pending that also involve automatic network selection and authentication, as well as client technology for the detection, association and logging on to networks.

About Boingo Wireless
Boingo Wireless, Inc., the global market leader in Wi-Fi, makes it simple and easy for people to enjoy Wi-Fi access on their laptop or mobile device at more than 100,000 hotspots worldwide. The official streaming partner deal also includes GigaOM’s Mobilize, NewTeeVee Live and Green:Net conferences, all held in San Francisco, all scheduled between September and March 2010.

In this milestone event streaming partnership, Structure 09: Put Cloud Computing to Work, will be available online in real-time. The focused one-day event features keynote speakers Marc Benioff, Chairman and CEO of Salesforce.com, and Paul Sagan, President and CEO of Akamai Technologies. Featured speakers include Werner Vogels, VP and CTO of Amazon, Russ Daniels, VP and CTO at Hewlett-Packard, and Raj Patel, VP of Global Networks for Yahoo!.

“It’s easy to get the feed online and thereby greatly extend the audience that can be part of our events,” Surj Patel, VP of Development at GigaOM, said of the exclusive partnership. “We also chose Livestream because they have all the tools and the necessary services to provide the highest quality streaming.”

GigaOM will use Livestream Procaster for encoding, 3D effects and showing images and video on the Web to the live audience. Livestream will also provide unlimited bandwidth and storage for the four events, along with bandwidth and equipment, set up, and testing. This obviates the need for an onsite producer and camera man, along with associated costs, at the conference.

“Our partnership with GigaOM is clear proof that savvy producers recognize the ability to broaden the reach of their events well beyond the walls of the convention center and other venues without the staggering associated technology and production costs,” said Max Haot, CEO and co-founder of Livestream. “The events are easily livestreamed out to the online world.”

Just last week, Livestream announced that media powerhouse FOX 5 (New York) is using its Web video service to broadcast a live, Internet extension of its flagship Good Day New York, hour-long morning show (http://www.livestream.com/myfoxny) online. They joined media giant Gannett Co., which is also livestreaming content from its various regional newspapers and USA Today to the Web world using the online broadcasting destination’s simple and fully featured services. Other content company customers include C-Span.

Livestream Procaster is a free software download available at www.livestream.com/procaster that allows digital media creators and producers to create the highest quality, live streaming video content. The one-click streaming service also lets presenters include whatever is on their computer screens live, including presentations, images, and even video and graphics-intensive video games.

With Livestream, anybody on the Internet who can connect a video camera to a computer can instantly stream live video worldwide, 24x7, via their own Livestream.com channels or to video players embedded on their own web sites or social networks. To date, more than 300,000 people have registered and launched live video channels using Livestream (formerly Mogulus) since its introduction in 2007.

Nimbuzz Selects Voxbone to Provide Mobile VoIP Function Without Wi-Fi

Vox_WEB logo 030209 Popular All-in-One Mobile IP Communications Service Makes VoIP Calls When Handset is out of Wi-Fi Range, Automatically Dialing Nearest Voxbone Access Number

BRUSSELS, Belgium – June 23, 2009 – Voxbone, provider of worldwide telephone numbers and origination services for voice carriers, today announced that it has been chosen by Nimbuzz, the fast-growing, all-in-one mobile voice/chat/messaging service, to provide local access numbers. Nimbuzz is using Voxbone to enable its users to make voice calls – without benefit of 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity – to their contacts on any of all popular IM and VoIP services, including Gizmo5 and Skype.

Nimbuzz, running on all Internet-capable mobile phones, detects when the handset is out of Wi-Fi or 3G range and conveniently steps in, requesting permission to automatically dial a local access number and route the call over the Internet. Such calls are free except for the low charge (if any) to the local access number. The Nimbuzz software client determines the correct access number to dial from the user’s Nimbuzz profile.

Currently growing at a rate of over 750,000 sign-ups per month and operating in 200 countries, Nimbuzz combines the services of mobile VoIP, chat, location, file sharing and MMS under one application. Equally important, it works across popular communities and social networks, including Skype, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, GoogleTalk, AIM, Facebook and MySpace. Nimbuzz VoIP also reaches PSTN phones through Skype-Out, using any of 10 VoIP third-party VoIP services (including Skype). A full phone keypad is part of its interface, along with the multi-service buddy list.

“We wanted Nimbuzz to be a truly mass-market application,” said Tobias Kemper, Nimbuzz head of communications. “Not one limited to this mobile platform, or that chat/calling network, or a particular click sequence. By adding the DID numbers supplied by Voxbone, we can provide reliable mobile VoIP outside of Internet range and over 2G networks in over 50 countries, with any Internet-enabled handset and no change in user behavior.”

ShoZu Leverages App Stores to Bring Award-Winning Social Media Hub
to Mobile Users Worldwide

ShozuLogo BARCELONA (June 22, 2009)ShoZu Ltd., the award-winning social media hub, announced details about its corporate strategy at the Mobile 2.0 Europe 2009 show in Barcelona last week. The announcement, which was made on the heels of ShoZu’s new CEO announcement earlier this month, included details about the company’s plan to leverage the rapidly growing selection of mobile application stores to distribute and charge for the ShoZu application, which is currently available through Apple’s iTunes app store.

Distribution through additional stores such as Nokia’s Ovi, Research in Motion’s BlackBerry App World and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile Marketplace will be announced at a later date. The application also continues to be available from London-based ShoZu at www.shozu.com and its mobile site at m.shozu.com.

Although mobile application stores have been available for years, the sector is in the midst of a rapid expansion, with new or forthcoming app stores from China Mobile, Microsoft, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and many other wireless carriers, handset manufacturers and operating system (OS) vendors.

The new stores – along with existing ones such as Apple’s App Store, which to date has more than 1 billion downloads – all share a common goal: to provide a central location that makes it convenient for companies such as ShoZu to display and distribute innovative apps and for consumers to find and pay for them.

“From our perspective, the app store model is the best way to assure that our consumers have a satisfying social media experience,” said ShoZu Chairman and CEO Chris Wade.  “It’s easier for us to distribute and for users to obtain new apps and updates more frequently, as opposed to a once-a-year purchase of a handset.  App stores provide the same benefit as offering a product at retail, with built-in promotion and a commerce engine to get paid.”

ShoZu’s new strategy also reflects the company’s decision not to sell ad space in order to support the rapidly expanding demand for its service. Instead, ShoZu’s financial model will include a modest, one-time download charge for new users of the application.

The ShoZu application currently is available from Apple’s App Store for $4.99. The app also is available directly from ShoZu at no charge for smartphones running the Symbian Series 60, Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6, as well as on select BlackBerry models. As ShoZu begins or resumes distributing the app through BlackBerry App World, Ovi and Windows Marketplace for Mobile, the download charge will apply to those applications.

The ShoZu mobile application is part of the ShoZu media hub service. The ShoZu media hub service will remain free for both existing and new users through the recent introduction of new ways to access the ShoZu service, including through picture messaging/(MMS), mobile e-mail, desktop e-mail and ShoZu Desktop, based on the Adobe Air platform, that works on both Macs and Windows PCs.

“App stores are where customers are and where they’re headed,” said Wade.  “Mobile users who aren’t aware of ShoZu now are much more likely to discover it in popular app stores, increasing the global ShoZu user community. At the same time, ShoZu benefits from a steady revenue stream, providing stability for the company and helping fund next-generation features for the ShoZu service.

“We’re working hard to keep ShoZu in the lead,” he said.  “We offer consumers more. We’re proven by many thousands of users. We work on more handsets and deliver our users’ photos, videos and content to more popular destinations more easily.”

XConnect logo cmyk[1] Company Honored Second Year in a Row

LONDON – June 17, 2009 – XConnect, the leader in Voice over IP (VoIP) and Next Generation Network (NGN) peering, today announced that it has received a 2009 Innovation Award from Global Telecoms Business magazine.

The award was presented to XConnect and the Korea Internet Neutral eXchange (KINX) in the IP Services Innovation category, for creating a national Korean NGN/VoIP-peering federation, which was announced in December and began operating in March.

“We are honored to receive a Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award for the second consecutive year,” said Eli Katz, XConnect CEO and founder, whose company received a 2008 award with the Netherlands Joint Cable Consortium for establishing the SIPExchange in the Netherlands, the world’s first peering federation for cable operators.

“These awards demonstrate growing industry recognition of neutral, secure, federation-based Carrier ENUM registry services as key to service providers’ transition to all-IP communications. We view the accolades as evidence of the importance of national federations for efficient, scalable, multi-protocol advanced interconnection that enables service providers to reduce costs, increase service quality, and offer multimedia services across networks.”

The Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards are designed to honor innovative projects involving telecoms operators and service providers around the world, in association with their vendors and suppliers.

“We were impressed by the quality and number of nominations this year – the most we have ever had – so it was a special triumph to be one of the winners this year,” said Alan Burkitt-Gray, editor of Global Telecoms Business. “The industry is seeing a wave of innovation which is making a huge difference – to the companies working in the industry and to all of us in business and as consumers.”

The 2009 awards were presented at a dinner ceremony June 16 in London, attended by about 350 industry leaders from around the world.

High-Definition Voice: Survey Shows Opportunities Aplenty

Gipslogo High-Definition Voice to Benefit Conference Calls, Enrich
Call Centers and Boost Worker Productivity

San Francisco — May 20, 2009 — In an innovative effort to gauge the current state of the fast-emerging, high-definition voice market, technology pioneer Global IP Solutions (Oslo Børs: GIPS), took advantage of its recent webinar on HD voice to poll its most likely applications.

The GIPS-initiated poll, taken by 186 of the webinar’s attendees, revealed that a third of respondents thought HD voice quality would benefit overall productivity in the workplace, while 57 percent considered conference calling would benefit the most.  Sixteen percent believed HD’s greatest impact would be felt in call centers.

Eleven percent of respondents said that they use High-Def voice service “all the time or whenever they can,” and an additional 30 percent reported having used it once or twice.  A surprising 47 percent of respondents had yet to experience a high-definition phone call. Sales calls and international calls were each named by 5.2 percent for getting the most benefit out of HD calling, and videoconferencing was favored by 32.8 percent to gain the biggest impact.

“The results validate our belief that there are many opportunities in corporate

America

that can greatly benefit from high definition voice,” said Joyce Kim, chief marketing officer at GIPS. “As a leader in providing the core technology for HD voice, a growing importance for call center operations, conferencing and overall employee productivity; these results demonstrate the value GIPS continues to deliver to its customers worldwide.”

As voice technology continues to migrate from circuit-switched services to modern IP-based network foundations, call quality has yet to receive straight “A”s in business and consumer use. Enter HD voice technology, and its leading driver: GIPS. Its advanced wideband CODECs and VoiceEngines, which solve the issues related to IP networks such as delay, jitter and echo, is capable of delivering high quality IP voice regardless of network conditions.

GIPS is building on the momentum of market interest in high-definition voice by sponsoring the HD Communications Summit on Thursday, May 21. Produced by VoIP pioneer Jeff Pulver, the conference is being held at New World Stages in

New York City

and will explore the issues and benefits associated with the widespread deployment of HD VoIP.

For more details on the May 21 conference and the results of GIPS’ poll, please visit the GIPS blog at http://gipscorp.com/blog.
